David Bailey

Gail and I went to the David Bailey exhibition at the National Gallery the week before last, and it was brilliant, it was amazing the people he met and knew. And of course the photos were stunning, I had a lovely day with Gal looking at everything, I always enjoy a good exhibition. It was unbelievable to me that he knew and was personally invited to things by the Krays, and was friends with Andy Warhol and Salvador Dali. I surreptitiously took a few photos of some of my favourites.

Edinburgh Fringe 2015

This festival season seemed to fly by, of course August is busy for Dixon and I normally with our anniversary, Island of Punk, and the Rebellion Festival, this year though I only did 1 out of those three and it still flew by so I only managed to see three things this year at the festival.

 The festival opened this year with the Harmonium Project, which was accompanied by coral singing, it was extremely busy and if you could get a second where you weren't being pushed and could take a moment to enjoy it it was gorgeous. A few of us from the studio went out to it together.

Secondly Hayley Gail and I went to see Nick Helm's Can Somebody For the Love of God Please Make All of This Pain and Misery Go Away (Work In Progress), which was great, Nick Helm is always funny, we saw him last year as well. But this show was a lot more understated than the year before. A lot less explosions and sparkle suits but still just as fun. We even managed a wee photo with him before the show, so we all three got a photo with him. He was really nice about it.

And to close out the festival I just managed to see Trainspotting live with Beth, which was as funny as it was intense, I managed to grab a few photos of the rave that opened the show, I don't know how they managed to act after going that mental for that long, and a wee photo of the sets grafitti. It was so well done, Im glad we managed to make it to it.

And so that was my fesitval this year, hopefully next year I will have gotten to some more shows and be working slightly less hours.

Our Living Room

It has been called to my attention that after all of our hard work on our house I have really only showed progress pictures of the living room and never the fully finished deal, I still have a few bits and bobs that I want to put up and add to but for the most part we have really turned our little home around and our living room really s a place we both like to be in and relax. So to the best of my ability I got some photos all realtor style, but I am really proud of how it has all come out in the end. Everything from the Batman, and Ghostbusters prints to the oak units, I just rally like how its come together, once I have the final bits and pieces up I will try to remember to post them here too, but for now, here it is our living room.

Three Holidays

We've got three holidays rolled into one here, starting with Valentine's Day, then Pancake Day, and finally Chinese New Year. So lets get started.

Dixon and I celebrated our Valentine's Day slightly early with a holiday I like myself, Friday the 13th. So he gave me his gift that night and we went out to dinner to our favourite spot, David Bann's. I have posted about them so many times because since the first time we went it has always been amazing. I also now realise that I basically wear the same thing each time, stripes, strips and more stripes. But hey don't mess with a good thing! The food again was fantastic, its always great to look at a menu and be able to order anything I fancy off of it.

Dixon got me a beautiful necklace from the fabulous, Bloody Mary Metal, I have been ogling their stuff for sometime, maybe he noticed. I don't usually wear jewelry, but it is so nice! 

I was off my photo game for Chinese New Year, but I snapped a couple, Hayley went to such an effort to make the room look amazing and all the food was great as well. It was really fun celebrating something that we haven't done before. Not to mention we lit lanterns, which I have always wanted to do since I first spotted them in the sky. So I am really happy Hayley put it all together to make it happen.

It was a wonderful evening together.

And last but not least, Pancake Day. It falls between our previous holidays on the 17th this year, and since that day I have been obsessed with making pancakes. I think in the last week I have had pancakes for 5 meals, that might be a bit weird, but maybe I was going through pancake withdrawals. 

Traditionally known as Shrove Tuesday, Pancake Day started as a way to use up your fats you have in your cupboard for the start of Lent. Now in the UK at least, everyone just goes daft for pancakes. Pretty well everyone I know ate pancakes that day for one of their meals. So its a bit of fun and delicious!

St Bernards Well

So I might just start with a warning, this post is going to be pretty picture heavy, but I did narrow it down from around 65 photos so I didn't do too badly. 

It was Doors Open Day on the 27 and 28th of September (I know, I'm rubbish, I really should have had this posted by now) and on Doors Open Day, you get to inside or behind the scenes of different museums, monmuents, attractions, and all manor of places that are not usually open to the public. Last Doors Open Day, I did the photogram workshop at Stills. This doors open day I got to see an attraction that is normally only open to the public on these such days, and perhaps a couple others throughout the year.

St Bernards Well

“The chief ornament of this delightful valley” Alexander Campbell, 1801 

A natural spring was discovered near the Dean Village on the Water of Leith in 1760, and was soon a visitor attraction as at that time ‘taking the waters’ was thought to be very good for the health.

 Some claimed that the water could cure everything from a bruised leg to ‘total blindness’, but others described the taste as having the ‘odious twang of hydrogen gas’ or even like ‘the washings from a foul gun barrel’. 

The building was designed by the painter Alexander Nasymth in 1789, and the statue inside represents Hygeia the Greek goddess of health.

And it didn't dissapoint, it was a lovely day out with Gail, and a really nice walk, we also managed to squeeze in a wander through the Queen Street Gardens, with is normally only open to residents of the area for a fee, for the upkeep.
