Birthday Hints

These are the three wee paintings that I made for Camille Caryn and Marsha, I wanted them to be hints for what they would be getting, but I think that only works for Caryn's and especially not Marsha's but they were fun!

Caryn also got Season One of Sherlock!

Marshy also got Howl's Moving Castle the novel and a set of cookie cutters!

And Camille got the new Winnie the Pooh movie! (Cause he's a bear.... its a hint right?)

Also this week I saw the new desgn for my arm and its awesome! Cheers Matt!

Mysterious Paper Sculptures

I recently came across a post on facebook about these mysterious book sculptures, it showed one being found in the Scottish Poetry Library with a note saying,

"It started with your name @byleaveswelive and became a tree.… … We know that a library is so much more than a building full of books… a book is so much more than pages full of words.… This is for you in support of libraries, books, words, ideas….. a gesture (poetic maybe?)"

That was March 2011, it seemed like a one off but in late June one appeared in the National library of Scotland aslo with a note,

"For @natlibscot – A gift in support of libraries, books, words, ideas….. (& against their exit)"

Soon after the Filmhouse recieved theirs

"For @filmhouse – A gift in support of libraries, books, words, ideas….. and all things *magic*"

In the Scottish Storytelling Centre found theirs well hidden, so they don't know how long it might have been there, but their message was the cutest so far

"For @scotstorycenter – A gift in support of libraries, books, works, ideas….. Once upon a time there was a book and in the book was a nest and in the nest was an egg and in the egg was a dragon and in the dragon was a story….."

Then two more appeared during the International Book Festival one addressed as such, was left on one of the signing tables in the Bookshop. The cup stating that there is nothing better than a cup of tea and a GOOD book

To @edbookfest ‘A gift’ This is for you in support of libraries, books, words, ideas…… & festivals xx

The other, addressed to @edincityoflit (UNESCO Edinburgh City of Literature), was secreted about their stand in the entrance tent.

To @edincityoflit ‘A gift’ LOST (albeit in a good book) This is for you in support of libraries, books, words, ideas…. “No infant has the power of deciding….. by what circumstances (they) shall be surrounded.. Robert Owen

The next was found in the Central Lending Library which I am at very regulary so maybe they have taken down the diorama but I am going to ask next time I am in if it is maybe somewhere else. Getting back to the point, their tag read,

"For Central Library ‘A Gift’ @Edinburgh_CC This is for you in support of libraries, books, words, ideas…. LIBRARIES ARE EXPANSIVE"

“It’s important that a story is not too long ……does not become tedious …….”
There was a flurry of excitement when someone at the Scottish Poetry Library spotted this note in their guest book, “Hopefully next time I’ll be able to linger longer – I’ve left a little something for you near Women’s Anthologies X. In support of Libraries, Books, Words and Ideas….”

“To @ByLeavesWeLive……. THE GIFTS “Gloves of bee’s ful, cap of the Wren’s Wings…….” Norman McCaig …. maybe sometimes impossible things… In support of LIbraries, Books, Words Ideas….”

Another one was left at the Scottish Poetry Library, but this one marked as 10/10

Did this mean that perhaps someone had found one earlier and not know what it was, discarded it or taken it from where it was left. But luckily that wasn't the end and soon This Tyranasaurus Rex bursting out of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World was discovered in the National Museum of Scotland.

“For @NtlMuseumsScot A Gift Your friends at @edbookfest suggested you might like this. …. In support of libraries, books, words, ideas and those places that house our treasures……”

And finally, found brazenly sitting on the donations box in the Writers Museum, a depiciton of perhaps Jekel and Hyde,

@CuratorEMG A Gift “The stories are in the stones” Ian Rankin In support of Libraries, Books, Words, Ideas …… and Writers.”

An so that seems to be the end of the Art Attack in Edinburgh, with almost no explination or confession, just pieces to inspireourselves to appreciate and show appreciation for the things around us and what we hold dear.

Where I found all this This Is Central Station

A Study In Scarlet

Or more a study in roses...

Good thing I practiced so much...

Two New Paintings

I thought I would try something a bit different with the colouration of roses, I think it came out pretty well, if a little messy. But I like it anyway.

I really liked this drawing so I might just paint it again sometime, the hare on the left is my favorite.

Also I sent an email about my film and the guys at www.processc22.co.uk said that my film looks like it can be process from what they can tell from the age and the photos I sent.  I am going to send them off tomorrow and hopefully hear more from them soon. They did say it can take up to and perhaps more than 6 months so hopefully they keep me posted!

Don't Spill the Beans

I am lucky enough to have all of my sister's birthdays in a row so you can get them all sorted in one fell swoop! I want to show you what I have gotten them... but I can't cause I can feel them snooping right now! But I really want to! so I have to update other things....
I did get my camera to the printers, unfortunately they have no idea how old the film is so processing it might ruin the film or their machines. They said to give them a week and see what happens with it. It turns out that my film is C-22 Process, and unfortunately they can't do that. However, I can send it to London and get it processed there. I have to send an email asking if they can do it, but their website makes them sound pretty confident. So if anyone knows about C-22 Process film any info would be appreciated!
Thats my Ensign Ranger 2 and my mystery film!

There is an exciting new exhibit of mummies at the National Museum of Scotland that I can't wait to go and see. It will be soo cool! Tickets aren't even too expensive!

I am also excited to say I saw Yang Guang the giant panda on the panda cam! So I officially need to go to the zoo! I think I want to go in March when it has warmed up a wee bit more so more of the other animals will be cutting about!

So if you are in Scoland it is a pretty exciting time to be here, it hasn't even been that cold! Even with London blanketed with snow, we have had chilly but sunny weather!
Its a great time to be out seeing the sites or curled up warm with a cup of tea and a book!
These are some of the books I have been reading!

And to finish off! Even though I am really excited about Camille, Caryn and Marshy's birthdays I do need to apologise for not getting my act together sooner so that they would for sure get their presents and cards before their birthday...oops! Love you guys!

Deep Down In The Bottom of Everything

This painting has driven me abit crazy as I couldn't think of how to do the background... I don't mind this but I do think it could be loads better. Might add something to it later.
It was Jam's Birthday last weekend and we all definately had a brilliant time Catie and Nips made a huge amount  of Mexican food .

So I have been trying to do something creative at least once a day whether its sketching, drawing, painting, or writing. And I have to say minus the drunken weekend I have done pretty well!!!

For Sarah

An extremely belated birthday present!

( for some reason the photo just will not look as good as the painting and throws the perspectives all off, but you get the general idea! Hopefully I can take a better photo eventually)

New This Week,

So I am not feeling very well over the last couple days so I thought to myself that it is a perfect time to show off my amazing find! Perfectly normal to have a Boar in a Bonnet in a Baby Carriage... perfectly normal....

I also this week in lego and books! I made my lighthouse and yes it lights up and yes the light spins! Perhaps I can ocnvice Dixon to help me make a wee video proving these things! I think he likes it better than he is letting on cause there hasn't been a day since I built it that he hasn't lit it up!
Something I haven't mentioned before but probably will again (unless I forget((which is mostly possibly))) I read a lot! so these are some of the books I have been reading this week.

Hopefully I will feel better soon and there will be more art, Dixon is keeping me supplied in hot water bottles and new cups of tea so I should be feeling better soon!!

Fortune Teller.....

My new painting not sure how I feel about the bottom half but the top half was a lot of fun, it is the fist man's head I have drawn in ages, and first one I have liked! Just a bit of fun!
Playing with my new camera's macro functions...

And the drawing pre painted...
You can definately tell I have the day off today!! Two posts and ones a painting, almost unheard of!
