Scottish Tattoo Convention Preparedness Week

The Scottish Tattoo Convention is this weekend and I am getting pretty excited, I have a wee bit of merch this year, I managed to have stickers printed and prints from one of my paintings for sale. The stickers came in yesterday on regular paper sized sheets so I had a fun night of cutting those wee guys out over and over and over. The painting I managed to sort out on Monday, but if I were more on the ball, I might have had a bit less of a frantic week this past week. I had been thinking about doing a painting for the convention since about November, but I only actually started painting it around the 14th of March, I know I am pretty good at procrastination right! But it worked out, I finished my painting and found a printers in Edinburgh to make me prints, so look out convention here I come!

We bit of my progress shots of the painting slowly but surely coming together.

Also a wee bit excited that I sad I would post and look at me here I am posting!

More Tattoo Time

Whoop, I had a busy week last week, I felt like I was tattooing left right and centre! Though I guess it was mostly legs, but it was such a fun week, With Kris on holiday and Dominika and Joe unwell, Saturday I had the whole shop to myself which was fun and unnerving at times, depending when and what type of customers came in. But when Kat came in for her ship we just locked the doors as that was definitely going to be way easier than worrying about anyone coming in. The day before I Did Steven's Ghostbusters tattoo and finally finished off Dixon's smashing blouse we started ages ago! But we've now started another one so hopefully I can get him in next week to finish the pig off as well.

A couple weeks ago now as well Ross who got the pterodactyl (pteranadon) came in to get an old star filled in so I took the opportunity to snap a wee mostly healed photo of it from him as well.

Tattooing Update

I have been a wee bit of a busy bee, or possibly slow to update, we will call it a mix of both. But I have been doing some tattoos recently so my apprenticeship moves ever forward. Thanks to some of my lovely friends I have been able to make good progress in the past couple weeks and I am now up to my 10th tattoo, so thank you everyone who has helped me so far! I really appreciate it.

Work In Progress

Back to work on the fun stuff again, so these are my 3rd and 4th tattoos, Joe at first wanted me to do his elbow, which was super scary, but Kris said no, as the skin is odd and I wouldn't be ready for it, not to mention, Joe has some extensive elbow skin, so we settled for the ankle-y calf region, which suits me just fine. And Dixon wanted his Critikill he had done some time ago covered with my smashing blouse painting. So they both need finishing, but it has been a lot of fun so far.

And the sketches for the rooster

Wee Goldfish for Stephen

Gah, I'm behind again I have a bunch of news, but I am going to try to keep this orderly and not make a massive post, so hopefully expect a few posts in the coming week.

So first things first, I did my second tattoo! Stephen kindly volunteered for it which was quite nerve racking as he has some amazing tattoos, but it was a lot of fun, I especially enjoyed doing the colouring as I didn't do that on the one I did on myself. I am really proud of how it turned out all together though. Hopefully more to come soon!

I am hopefully going to keep adding to this stencil wall and fill it up!
So second one so far, just need to find my rose stencil and pop it up there,
All drawn in the one day as well, were trying to work out something Japanese for Stephen to go with his theme.

Baby Steps

My apprenticeship escalated quite quckly last week, I started tattooing oranges, which is a lot of fun Oranges are quite willing victims. They never complain, they smell great, the only awkward thing they do is they like to roll away if you don't keep a firm grip on them.

From there, on Saturday I tattooed myself! It was just as much fun as I remembered, but this time I did actually enjoy it once the adrenaline calmed down and I could think more clearly about what I was doing, the initial lines were pretty sore! It was also fairly awkward the way I needed to sit, and my clip cord kept catching on the cling film, so if I do something like that in that position again I will thoroughly cover the arm rest with paper.

Now just to decide if I like it black and grey or if I want to add some colour.

June Drawings

As I said in my last post, I have been drawing, and quite a bit too. The top one is based on the stories of Baba Yaga, and Dominika helped me with the Russian Cyrillic. I am hopefully going to start painting the kiwi this week as well as the koala paw. I am really excited how the paw came out as I took the reference photo a couple weeks ago when Hayley and I went to the zoo. The paw just looked perfect for drawing. And the mole makes sense if you know Kris, its part of his nickname, and it was his birthday. So here are a few different things I have been working on from india ink, to just plain sketches, and watercolours, I have been a wee bit busy with it.

I am also on instagram and I post my drawing more semi regularly there so if you want to find me there it is @courtenaydickson, but if semi monthly is enough for you don't worry, so far it looks like I am keeping to that schedule!

Oh ya and I promised an update on my tattoo,
