Burns Night

It was Burns Night on Saturday the 25th and I really wanted to get into the spirit of the thing A. because Dixon and I usually go round to Gail and Gordon's often but haven't lately, so it was really nice to have them and Hayley round to ours, and B. I really like Veggie Haggis. So after seeing Haggis and Burns Night things everywhere I convinced Dixon we should have the meal at ours. I made Veggie Haggis Stuffed Peppers and and Honey Glazed Sweet Potatoes and Parsnips, for Gail, Gordon, Hayley and I, and Dixon had real Haggis Pizza, which Gail and Gordon had a sampling of too! And for dessert, Cranachan! A traditional Scottish dessert made from double cream, toasted oats, raspberries, honey and whiskey. It was awesome!

Gail also read a part of one of Dixon's Nana's favorite poems by Robert Burns, To a Mouse,

Wee, sleekit, cowrin, tim'rous beastie,
O, what a panic's in thy breastie!
Thou ne na start awa sae hasty not,
Wi' bickering brattle!
I wad be laith to rin an' chase thee,
Wi' murdering pattle!

And today Hayley and I are going to the Sharmanka exhibit, it is going to be brilliant. So Hopefully some really cool photos of that later!

3 Weeks Down

And we are back with 7 more happy days, its been a pretty great week this week! We had Burns Night, which I will hopefully talk more about in my next post, and I had got my pictures back from the printers. So even with January feeling like the longest month ever, I have had a lot of ups! So lets bring on the final week of January!

1. Getting my film back from the printers
2. Playing with negatives on my Lomo Scanner
3. The cutest Oilers fans ever
4. No cavities, painless dental checkup
5. Catching the early bus, 20 mins extra time at home
6. Burns Night Supper, yum!
7. Free Coffee, thanks O2!

That about sums up my week!

Halina Rolls Colour Film

I finally got around to getting my roll of film developed from ages and ages ago, almost a year ago, because one of the photos I took was in this exhibition, Massimo Bartolini. Unfortuantely it didn't turn out as well as I hoped. But some of the other pictures I love. There were a few light leaks, but if you know me I am rather fond of a light leak! I really need to get taking more shots with film! Anyway, without further ado.

January seems to be the month for posts for me so far, hopefully I didn't just jinx it haha.

14 Days In

Another week gone and another seven days happy, and here they are.

1. Kindle and Chocolate covered peanuts, magic
2.Sunny day taking the recycling away
3. New limited Terry Pratchett book that are gorgeous
4. Taking up cross stitching
5. Louise Bourgois Exhibit
6. Drinks with Dixon and friends
7. Walking round Cramond with Mhairi and Jura her dog.

100 Days Happy is going really well! I mean, I think it is, it turns out I am pretty easily pleased, give me a sunny day, some books or friends and it turns out that's all it takes. But I think the magic is in  acknowledging  the little things that make your life great and remembering to capture the moment. So its been a lot of fun doing that so far.

Louise Bourgeois, Again

I got to go to the second Louise Bourgeois exhibition this month on my lunch break this week, which was at The Fruitmarket Gallery. It was over 200 sketches and writings from when she had insomnia that were saved from the bin by her assistant, that she made in the winter of 1994, I believe. And having seen her finished works at Modern One of the National Galleries, it was really cool to see the themes and repetitions in her work at the starting levels. Some of my favorite images were of the flowers and when there was water as well. I was surprised to find the large works upstairs in the gallery as well, I hadn't ever been upstairs in the Fruitmarket. And they really had a lot of emotion in them, well worth having gone up to check them out. Each piece was connected through the words she wrote on them, and now thinking of it I wihs I took not of all of the pictures words. But in the large one below it says,

"When terror pounces
Grips me
I create an image"

So all in all a brilliant way to spend my lunchtime, and it was really cool to find out more about an artist who up until a few weeks ago I hadn't heard of.

All The Galleries

So this may be a fairly picture heavy post, but to be honest, thats mostly what I read blogs for so here ya go, a wee treat. And so did we that day, there were a few exhibits around the city that we both wanted to see and it turned out to be a beautiful day to do it.
I had never been to Modern One, and neither had Hayley, so it was really cool to see the layout of the garden and the sculptural landscaping. I couldn't get a good picture of the "Everything is going to be alright" but I will hopefully have a chance to try again. Soon.

It was an exhibition on Louise Bourgeois, including elements of sculpture, drawing and painting. Proper modern art, and even the parts I didn't fully get the parts that I liked really made it totally worthwhile. I would definitely recommend it, and I am hopefully checking out the companion exhibit at the Fruitmarket later in the week.

The National Galleries were having their RSA exhibit as well as a display of Rodin's The Kiss, which we made the special trip for, and it was amazing in real life. And very cool to get a picture with.

And one last Exhibition, at the National Museum of Scotland, the Kabuki exhibit I have mentioned earlier, I got a really good look at and it is still so cool how woodblocks work, I really want to teach myself how to do this amazing type of art.
Hayley's showing off the famous Cross Eyed pose, its meant to show when a character is angry or agitated. I think she pulled it off very well.

I don't know why this is turned the wrong way, but just now I can't be bothered to fix it, but Hayley made an awesome lunch and it deserves a mention, roasted Veg and Spinch Salad with Pesto Dessing, and Veggie Jelly with Fresh Carrot and Orange Juice. Delicious!

And one last thing I am trying out, 100 Days Happy, so you record a moment each day that makes you happy and here is my first week. Its been a good week.

1. New Scarf and Mittens all cosy for winter
2. Bamming up Marshy on Facetime
3. Starting walking again, with a rainbow
4. Video games with Dixon
5. Galleries with Hayley
6. Surprise Pizza
7. Night in to myself with Sushi, Crabbies, and Countdown, 8 out of 10 Cats style
So that has been fun so far and I'm looking forward to more of those.
